It's okay, even best, for the law to allow abortionists to kill millions of innocent little womb babies like this one, who, as we can see, is sucking her or his thumb.
Sadly, that's part of the gist of law prof Douglas Kmiec's op-ed piece in the L.A. Times
today (Oct. 17). (Click on this post's title to see it. But keep a barf bag handy.
) A self-described Catholic who has been openly stumping for the 100% pro-abortion politician Barack Hussein Obama, Kmiec writes this about aborting God's little babies:
"The way out is to remember that when there are differences among religious creeds, none is entitled to be given preference in law or policy. Sometimes the law must simply leave space for the exercise of individual judgment, because our religious or scientific differences of opinion are for the moment too profound to be bridged collectively."
Kmiec also says Catholics can vote for the abortion zealot extremist Barack Hussein Obama.
Okay, here we have a "teachable moment." It is a perfect, not to mention necessary, time for Cardinal Roger Mahony of Los Angeles to step up to the plate and set the record straight.
Cardinal Mahony should pen an op-ed piece and demand that the Times
His Eminence needs to correct Kmiec and give us millions of L.A. Catholics genuine
-- which is NOT "opinion," as Kmiec falsely and wrongly calls it.
Cardinal Mahony should tell us, loudly and clearly, that Catholic teaching is this:
"A Christian may never conform to a law which is in itself immoral, and such is the case of a law which would admit in principle the liceity of abortion. Nor can a Christian take part in a propaganda campaign in favor of such a law, or vote for it. Moreover, he may not collaborate in its application." -- Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Declaration on Procured Abortion
(par. 22), 1974
"A public official who would deny unborn children the protection of laws enjoyed by other citizens is guilty of grave injustice. Ordinarily it is morally illicit to help such a person achieve an office ... " -- Abp. John Myers (then-bishop of Peoria), The Obligations of Catholics and the Rights of Unborn Children
, pastoral letter, 1990
Cardinal Mahony could also remind us what God tells us in Scripture:
"Woe to those who enact evil statutes, and to those who constantly record unjust decisions." -- Isaias 10:1
"'How long will you judge unjustly and favor the cause of the wicked? Defend the lowly and the fatherless; ... from the hand of the wicked deliver them.'" -- Psalm 81:1-4
Something like 60 bishops have spoken out on abortion and voting this year. When will Cardinal Mahony end his silence on this subject and tell us that aborting babies is the
He should do it before
the election, of course. For the little baby above, and for millions more just like her or him.
