Soon: Cardinal Levada?

Catholic World News reported on December 29 that the Italian press, and specifically the news agency ADN Kronos, is relaying rumors that Pope Benedict XVI might name new cardinals on January 6, the Feast of the Epiphany, and that he might call a consistory on February 22, the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter at Antioch.

Catholic World News says Archbishop William Levada should qualify, because the heads of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith have always been cardinals.

In the most recent consistory, in October 2003, Pope John Paul II named 30 new cardinals.

"Unnamed Vatican officials" supposedly are the sources for the latest rumors.

But perhaps we'll get a Cardinal Burke to make up for it.

The best thing I can say is that this Archbishop and the other 'Mahoney Cronies' are all turning 70 and we should only have a few more years of them.
