Ironic remarks, coming from Cardinal Mahony

It turns out (click on this post's title) that our Cardinal Roger Mahony of Los Angeles spoke to reporters yesterday before Pope Benedict XVI met with Boston clergy sex abuse victims at the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington, D.C.

Cardinal Mahony said, "We've got to face it [the clergy sex abuse issue] head on and deal with it. He's [the Pope] spoken of reconciliation and healing, and asked us to set a better tone in the [C]hurch."

Facing clergy sex abuse head on and dealing with it was not exactly Cardinal Mahony's forte in recent decades.

As for a better tone in the Church, how about heartfelt apologies, followed by mass resignations, from those in the hierarchy who mishandled, to say the least, the clergy sex abuse situation over the past four decades or so?
