Putin, not Mahony, calls for larger families
Russian President Vladimir Putin today said (click on this post's title) a plummeting birthrate is his country's most pressing problem, and he pledged to pay couples 1,500 rubles ($55.39) a month for their first baby and to double that for their second baby.
That is a lot of money in Russia, because weekly wages there are less than $100.00.
Putin said, "We are talking about love, about women, about children, about the family." He continued, "The problem of low birth rates cannot be resolved without a change in the attitude of our society toward the issue of family and family values."
When was the last time Cardinal Mahony called for Angelenos to have more babies and larger families? (I hope somebody can tell me it was recently!)

I remember a post of yours, Mr. Q, from some time ago in which you said that there are two little words never heard in L.A. ... HUMANAE VITAE.

I keep on saying it, but it's true, the Cardinal Archbishop of Los Angeles is NOT Catholic.
Sadly, large families are now frowned upon, even by so called "Catholic" representatives. More conservative dioceses and churches will have a greater portion of big families, while more liberal churches have few large families.
Dear Anonymous 4:04 a.m.,
Yes, my question was pretty much a rhetorical one, but I did want to allow for the slim possibility of any remarks that someone might have heard at a parish gathering or in a private conversation, in months or years past, or perhaps remarks by some other bishop or official in this Archdiocese.
Thank you for the cite! Yes, "Humanae Vitae" is almost never heard in L.A., along with other two-word terms such as "frequent Confession."
Dear Anonymous 7:58 a.m.,
Yes, it is really sad, isn't it, when Catholics adopt the loveless, fruitless ways of the world?
Remember some years ago when now-retired Father Paul Marx, OSB, whom Pope John Paul II called "The Apostle of Life," began a "Have One More Child" campaign? He was right, and he still is!
JOSEPH D'HIPPOLITO SAYS...
Why would Cardenal Ma-joto encourage Catholics to have more children when we have all these illegal immigrants crossing our southern border?
Just wondering....

Silly, Q - larger families is *not* a Democratic Party talking point!
