Archbishop Niederauer apologizes. But what about the necessary follow-up?

The Catholic News Agency today (October 12) reports (click on this post's title) that Abp. George Niederauer of San Francisco has written a column to appear in his archdiocesan newspaper Catholic San Francisco this Sunday in which he apologizes for giving Communion to two members of the anti-Catholic, blaspheming group "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence" when he visited Most Holy Redeemer Church in San Francisco on October 7 and said Mass there.

The following is from the CNA account of the archbishop's statement:

"'Although I had often seen photographs of members of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, I had never encountered them in person until October 7th. I did not recognize who these people were when they approached me.

"'After the event, I realized that they were members of this particular organization and that giving them Holy Communion had been a mistake.

"'I apologize to the Catholics of the Archdiocese of San Francisco and to Catholics at large for doing so,'" Archbishop Niederauer writes.

"'Someone who dresses in a mock religious habit to attend Mass does so to make a point. If people dress in a manner clearly intended to mock what we hold sacred, they place themselves in an objective situation in which it is not appropriate for them to receive Holy Communion, much less for a minister of the Church to give the Sacrament to them.'

"'Therefore I conclude that the presence of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence at the Mass on October 7th was intended as a provocative gesture. In that moment I failed to recognize it as such, and for that, as I have said, I must apologize,' the Archbishop concludes."

Some follow-up needs to accompany this apology.

For instance, how about if Archbishop Niederauer holds Benediction and Adoration at Most Holy Redeemer Church in reparation for the situation?

And then how about if Archbishop Niederauer cleans house at Most Holy Redeemer Parish so that it becomes a parish for ALL Catholics once more and so that never again will anyone there lend aid and comfort to the sodomy-activist movement and mislead and give scandal to people?

Do you have any more ideas for necessary follow-up? Or any more thoughts on this whole situation?

What makes you right and Rome wrong? After all, if Niederauer was wrong wouldn't Rome swoop down like a hawk? Doesn't the hierarchy of the "church" exist to insure that the faithful are given the true faith?

Or maybe it's just another fund-raising branch of the Democratic party.

Actually, that's not even a question. We can all see who they're faithful to.

The "bishop" is a liar. How long is Pope Benedict the Whatever going to allow this to continue? Anyone who gives money to the "catholic" church is a fool. Why not just give your money directly to Nancy Pelosi - at least that way you're not paying for the "bishop" to continuously promote the "catholic" - oops - the "homo" lifestyle.

Quintero, apologies do not make up for a lack of insight or foresight. Did the good archbishop not know about the existance of these nuns. After all, San Francisco is not a very big place. And what did the good archbishop expect would be the fallout of his actions?

The problem is that receiving (and, apparently, distributing) the Eucharist for many Catholics has become no more than an assembly-line procedure similar to sticking an engine onto a chassis at the Ford plant. The reverence has long since gone. Not only that but Catholics view the Eucharist as a divine right, rather than as a privledge.

And Catholics expect these episcopal careerists and losers to deny the Eucharist to politicians who support legalized abortion?

Google up "Revival Bingo Castro Disrict Most Holy Redeemer" Archbishop Niederauer was allowing this in the church hall. Archbishop Niederauer also allowed a Drag Queen Contest at Most Holy Redeemer. An apology is not the answer. What we have here is a failure...to...excommunicate!

I knew Niederauer when he was a pofessor at the seminary, and he was a good priest.
I will grant him one mistake, serious though it is, since we're talking about sacrilege. It is the "Sisters" who committed the offence against the Lord, and Niederauer was simply not on his game.
But he only gets this one "pass" from me!
Frankly, I don't know how anyone can be the Bishop of Sodom without making significant errors in judgment one way or the other, but I hope he figures it out that he needs to tow the line of the Catholic Faith and piss off the popular culture rather than pissing off Catholics!

For a greater understanding of how far this parish has gone, in the parish bulletin this week there is this "Thank You"
Street Fair

"We would like to thank the Young Adult Group for staffing the parish information booth at the Castro Street fair. Thank you also to the Support Group for facilitating the parish’s presence in this neighborhood celebration."

I urge you to do a google search using the term "Castro Street Fair" and see what kind of activities occur at the "neighborhood celebration"
May God have mercy on us.

Dear Everyone,

The Catholic Church remains the one, true Church even if less than perfect appointments get made and if they are not soon corrected.

And don't worry -- as my previous mention of this case has shown, by just quoting the Abp.'s apology I am not saying it suffices. No one could read the S.F. Chronicle or watch the S.F. TV news even cursorily without knowing about the anti-Catholic "sisters" and without knowing about the rot in Most Holy Redeemer Parish.

By now everyone including the Abp. himself knows that he has compromised his authority.

Now Most Holy Redeemer Parish is defying the Abp. by publishing a thank-you letter from a "sister." Time for someone to clean house there and throughout the entire archdiocese.
