Mahony at $40 prayer breakfast: 'We are the Church of the poor'

It must have been a very big Egg McMuffin, Your Eminence.

THE TIDINGS reports ...

"We are the church of the poor," the cardinal reminded those present [at the pre-breakfast 7:00 a.m. Mass], citing the example of St. Vincent de Paul, whose feast day is Sept. 27.
Cardinal Mahony invited those attending to "look around and make the marginalized objects of our prayer, care and concern."
Do I qualify as marginalized since I couldn't afford the $400 required to feed my poor Mexican family of ten at the cathedral prayer breakfast? And by the way, I thought that the object of our prayer was supposed to be God?

At the breakfast itself, Msgr. Kevin Kostelnik, Cathedral pastor, introduced Denise Jackson and her mother Audrey Forte, who had been homeless since the hurricanes and flooding affected New Orleans. The Cathedral parish --- in line with what other parishes around the U.S. have been doing since the hurricanes left thousands homeless --- has adopted Denise and her mother.

I guess this is to show that the Cathedral parish is a sharing and caring community. What I want to know is does this mean that Denise and Audrey moved into the Cardinal's palace on Hill Street?

One of the "dignitaries" present at the prayer breakfast was Mahony crony and pro-abortion Catholic mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa. He led everyone in the pledge of allegiance. The new mayor is becoming a regular feature at Mahony's cathedral. The next thing you know the Cardinal will be commissioning a bronze likeness of Villaraigosa to hang up next to one of those "hellish looking creatures with scorched wings."

40$ for breakfast but your parking is free. Until 9:15 that is, then they want to charge you the daily rate.

Can a petition drive be arranged to ask for Cardinal Mahony to resign? And send this petition to the Vatican?

I think our 'peace and justice' committee with its paid people will approve of all this...

Msgr. Kevin Kostelnik is "pastor" of the cathedral? How weird is that?! His Eminence Roger Cardinal Mahony is automatically pastor of the cathedral. And certainly pastor of that cathedral. Msgr. Kostelnik must be the rector.

You are right, Daniel. But this is L.A. Mahony does things his way.
