Fork over the files, please

THE LOS ANGELES TIMES reports ...

The California Supreme Court on Wednesday let stand a court order forcing Cardinal Roger M. Mahony to give authorities the confidential files of two former priests accused of child molestation.

Mahony has fought for three years to quash grand jury subpoenas on the grounds that opening the files would violate the church's constitutional right of religious freedom.

"This is an important milestone in addressing the issue of clerical sexual abuse," Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Steve Cooley said of the Supreme Court's action. "I look forward to immediate access to files we subpoenaed from the Los Angeles Archdiocese."

Let it begin....Since the Church cannot or will not police its own and the criminals continue with impunity, let some of the rot be dug out by the civil authorities.

May the Cardinal be forced to resign; he has taken enough souls down...

Unfortunately, Mahoney and his cronies have had a lot of time to "clean up" the files, so to speak. Anyone want to bet that a large number of files have been "misplaced"?

I am not for covering up for these perverts, but I bet you a dollar that Mahoney gives up every priest and bishop he can think of just to keep himself out of trouble.

Skeetor,
I agree with you. When the going gets tough, Mahoney will take a flight out of the country and use a mobile phone to turn people in. I bet he will give it a fight. But what is sad about the whole ordeal is that the media will say the "Catholic Church" and not Mahoney, is covering this up! I wish Mahoney would just resign and let someone like Archbishop Shapue from Denver take over the diocese. He did a great job in Denver and I'm willing to bet he could in LA as well.

Let the purging begin and may the Lord bless the LA Archdiocese with many holy Priests and a Great and Holy Bishop.

Well I would bet if any 1/2 assed canon lawyer could bust Mahoney, It doesn't take an expert to figure out that Mahoney is probably in violation of Canon Law. All crooks think they can elude the law but they all make enough mistakes that they can get caught. The 10% figure is not Roger's fault, but it shows the slippery slope LA was on before Mahoney was there, Mahoney just finished the problem off. It is time for a change, the laity forced a change in Joliet Illinois, they forced a change in Boston, maybe it is time for the laity to rise up and run Roger off. I think Mahoney should be convicted of perjury and laicized for the conduct he permitted his priests to operate under: the violations of the holy father are obvious and maybe we should we remind him that Mother Angelica could still kick his ass with the authorities, writing heresy and calling Catholic is more than enough evidence to dismiss his sorry ass from the priesthood. Don't let him sit in Rome, let his ass rot in a California prison.

If there are "missing" files, then our Prince of the Church may be looking at an obstruction of justice rap. DAs don't look kindly on such "missplacings."
