Happy 38th Anniversary, "Humanae Vitae!"

On July 25, 1968, Pope Paul VI issued his encyclical letter Humanae Vitae (On Human Life), subtitled, "On the Regulation of Birth" (click on this post's title).

We should celebrate and promote this holy, Catholic, wise, prophetic and beautiful document today and every day, and we should thank and bless Pope Paul VI for it.

What is more, with the 40th anniversary only two years away, ideally every bishop in the USA should be planning and organizing big celebrations, symposia and so on, and should be making his clergy study, absorb and preach Humanae Vitae to their flocks from this day forward.

Please, stifle your laughter -- or your tears. I know the above suggestion is unlikely in the extreme to ever happen.

But we can celebrate, and here are some good ways to do that:

Read, save and pass along St. Padre Pio's beautiful, touching letter of support to Pope Paul VI

Study, save and pass along this bibliography of great pro-life Catholic scholar Janet Smith's extensive works on pro-life and pro-family subjects, including Humanae Vitae:

Order copies of Humanae Vitae (and other encyclicals) from the Daughters of St. Paul, and pass along this link for making orders:

See, save and pass along the official text of Humanae Vitae in Latin:

And last but not least, please add your comments about Humanae Vitae here on this post, and please tell your friends and relatives to visit "onelacatholic," see this post and get the above resources themselves!

This is a good time to read or reread Humanae Vitae. Pope Paul was a prophet and he foresaw what sexual license would bring and it has gone even farther than that. It has brought the wholesale destruction of families and marriages and the supposed redefining of both. It has brought about a shameless disregard for life and so there are those who feel free to manipulate it--to manufacture it, end it, experiement with it, create it and abort it. There is no happiness outside of God's law...

Had the so called Shepherds really enforced "Humanae Vitae" we may not
be in the mess we are are in today.

It is time that the Vatican take a long hard look at how Bishops are chosen. The present system does not work very well!

This post on Humanae Vitae brought to mind a post of yours from a year ago entitled, In one hear, out the other.

satan used the publication of this important encylical to lure many souls away from God and towards hell.....obedience isn't always easy, but it is so important in our efforts to get into heaven.

Dear Xochilt,

You have a great memory! Thanks for writing.

Priests could do so much good by preaching about Humanae Vitae and against the contraceptive mentality and the contraception-abortion link. But they would have to overcome, among other things, the last four decades of too many other priests telling people in Confession that contraception was not sinful.

Humanae Vitae, a great document then and today. Explicitly predicting the moral mess that most Americans find themselves in.
