What Cardinal Mahony could do for Summorum Pontificum

Know what Cardinal Mahony could do for Summorum Pontificum, for the Holy Father who has authored it and decreed it and for the glorious Tridentine Latin Mass?

He could be as generous with it as he was in the Nineties with girl altar boys. Recall that he said, as his rationale for illicitly using girl altar boys, "While we currently do not have permission..."

Well, Cardinal Mahony now has permission, and in fact an order, and from the Vicar of Christ himself. Let him now be as bold in obeying that order as he was brazen in disobeying by using girl altar boys.

Dear Quintero,
I don't understand why you are highlighting what the Cardinal might or might not do when Summorum Pontificum lifts the requirement that the diocesan bishop grant permission for the use of the 1962 Roman Missal. The responsibility for saying "yes" or "no" to requests for the Mass of Pope St. Pius V, O.P., now (or at least in September) rests initially with pastors of parishes.

Dear Anonymous,

Because we have just heard Bishop Trautman say he is going to issue guidelines to his priests about what they may do.

Do you think other bishops, and Cardinal Mahony, will not be inclined to do the same?

Dear Quintero,
Since the Holy Father affirmed that each diocesan bishop is the custodian of the Liturgy in his own see, I do expect bishops to set up mechanisms for the implementation of Summorum Pontificum. Familiarity with the intricacies of the rubrics of the "Tridentine" Mass, as well as competency in Latin do not seem to be burdensome expectations of a priest who wants to celebrate Mass using the 1962 Missal.

Dear Anonymous 4:55 p.m.,

Will they really be "mechanisms for the implementation of Summorum Pontificum," or will they be for stifling it? Various individual bishops' statements so far do not supply much hope for the former.
