You'd better start saying your prayers ...

... in Latin!

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Presenting the new "Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church," Pope Benedict XVI urged Catholics around the world to memorize the most common Catholic prayers in Latin. Learning the prayers in Latin as well as in one's own language "will help Christian faithful of different languages pray together, especially when they gather for special circumstances," the pope said June 28 as he distributed the Italian version of the compendium, which included an appendix with the Latin texts of many traditional prayers, including the Sign of the Cross, the Gloria, the Hail Mary and Come, Holy Spirit.

Treasury of Latin Prayers

One of the best ways to learn the basic prayers in Latin is to start praying the Rosary in Latin regularly. I told the beads in Latin every night before I got married; I had the prayers down by heart in a couple of months. We pray our family Rosary in Latin on Sundays.

Gee, I wasn't going to buy it. Now I might change my wee mind.

New media campaign:

Habes linguam latinam?

(Trying to figure out what a Latin moustache would look like on a celebrity ... would it be a Latin nimbus? or one of those legends on banners in old paintings?)

How about an "Outreach" to Southern protestants? If this doesn't make 'em at least curious, nothing will!

I wasn't going to buy the Compendium, but if it has the Latin Prayers, I'm down.
