Cardinal Pio Laghi, R.I.P.

USA Today reports (click on this post's title) that Cardinal Pio Laghi (above) died Saturday in Rome at age 86 from a blood-related illness. May he rest in peace.

Cardinal Laghi was named Papal Nuncio to the USA in 1980 and handled the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Holy See and the U.S. government in 1984.

President George W. Bush issued a statement of "deepest condolences to Pope Benedict XVI and all Catholics."
