Pope Benedict gives Obama a pro-life document

When they met for 36 minutes today, Pope Benedict XVI gave Obama a copy of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith's 2008 pro-life bioethics instruction Dignitas Personae, reports the Catholic News Agency (click on this post's title).

The document is online at: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20081208_dignitas-personae_en.html

Maybe we'll get some glimmers from somewhere, soon, about what the Pope told Obama.

Hi, Charity,

When Pope Benedict told Obama about "the right to abide by one's own conscience," he was not referring to Obama's conscience -- he was warning Obama not to violate the consciences of Catholic doctors, pharmacists and nurses by implementing rules that would make them lose their jobs unless they abort babies, refer for aborting babies, prescribe abortifacient drugs, etc.

Let's hope Obama will heed what the Pope said.
